We are excited to introduce our new monthly event series, Grow Smart CLT! As Charlotte grows (44 people move here each day), it's critical that we grow smarter. To help, we're launching a new monthly event series called Grow Smart CLT on February 21st!
These fun yet informative events will dive into the multiple sustainability challenges that Charlotte faces due to our rapid growth.
Each month we will choose a different issue that is being impacted by our growth. Our goal is to ensure that you not only walk away with a better understanding of the challenge but also at least one action you can take to help put Charlotte on a smarter path.
For our first event, we have partnered with the Integrated Network for Social Sustainability (INSS). Come mingle, drink, and think with like-minded Charlotteans while you learn what you can do to make a difference!
TOPIC AND SPEAKERS:
What is Smart Growth? Our first discussion will introduce the concept of smart growth and why it is so important to a rapidly growing city like Charlotte.
Dr. Douglas Shoemaker, Director of Research and Outreach at UNC Charlotte's Center for Applied GIScience, will share his research on the effects of urban expansion and what that would look like in the year 2030 on our current trajectory.
We will also introduce Charlotte's new planning director, Taiwo Jaiyeoba. He will speak on his new responsibility of overseeing a rewrite of Charlotte's zoning and land-use rules.
Tickets are $5 for non-Sustain Charlotte members (donate at least $5/month or $60/year) and free for members. Interested in becoming a member to attend the events for free? Go to sustaincharlotte.org for more information.
