Thank you for helping us to turn the St. Patrick’s Day parade into a Pyrade!
Here’s what you need to know:
We will meet at 10 am at First Ward Park in Uptown Charlotte. That is at the corner of Brevard and 7th Streets. The GPS address is 301 E 7th St, Charlotte, NC 28202. There are surface lots, street parking, and decks throughout that area.
Please wear your 2018 St. Pat's CGPR shirts. If you did not order a matching shirt, please wear a plain kelly green t-shirt (available at WalMart or Michaels).
When you arrive, look for Rose…or, if you don’t know Rose, look for the dark gray Jeep Patriot surrounded by green rubbermaids. Rose will try to park on the street right next to the park and will have containers full of green beads, bowties, mini-fedoras, boppers, bandanas, etc. for the Pyrs and their people. If you prefer to decorate your Pyr with other items, that’s great, too!
We’ll leave as a group to march to our line-up position at 10:15.
The parade steps off at 11. We will walk 2.5 miles together.
We’ll have water buckets for the Pyrs. Humans, please bring your own water bottles. (Or whatever you want to put in them…we don’t judge!)
After the parade, all are invited to raise a pint at Birdsong Brewing Company. The GPS address is 1016 North Davidson St. in Charlotte. This isn’t walkable. Rather, it is a short couple minute drive from where the parade ends. The brewery is Pyr-friendly, and they will have a food truck for lunch: hiyafoodtruck.com/truck-stop-request.html
We’ve received TWO VERY IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FROM PARADE ORGANIZERS:
DOGS MUST STAY IN THE CENTER OF THE STREET. VIEWERS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO RUSH INTO THE STREET TO PET THE DOGS, NOR ARE DOGS ALLOWED TO “WORK THE CROWD” ON THE SIDES OF THE STREET.
GROUPS MUST MARCH TOGETHER.
We’ve been advised that groups who don’t follow these instructions will not be asked back, and this is such a fun event that we want to keep doing it. As required by parade organizers, we have volunteers who will be our guides and march on either side of our group to keep a reasonable pace for us all and prevent people from rushing up to the dogs. They’ll be easy to spot because they’ll be waiving CGPR flags. So, in short, stay together, and stay inside the flags.
— We ask that all participants buy one of our 2018 CGPR St Patrick's Day T-shirts from Threadless: cgpr.threadless.com/designs/parade-test.
Order by March 1 for standard delivery in time for the parade. (Those not marching are also welcome to buy a shirt.) We will provide decorations (bow ties, tutus, hats, and beads) for the Pyrs, but folks are welcome to bring their own, too.
Each participant and Pyr should be able to walk 2.5 miles. The parade will step off at 11:00 am at N. Tryon and 9th Streets in uptown Charlotte. We then march south to 3rd Street where we take a left and march to Caldwell. charlottestpatsday.com
After the parade, we will head to Birdsong Brewery for a cold one and lunch. They will have a food truck. All, especially those who can't march with us, are invited to meet us there about 1ish. birdsongbrewing.com
As with all CGPR events, your Pyr does not have to be a CGPR alumni to join us. You do not have to have a Pyr to join us either because we will need help with the water wagon and banners and walkers for the Pyrs currently in rescue.
