As Grandma used to say...«waste not, want not… never throw things away.» Back in the olden days people were raised to re-purpose, reuse, and recycle everyday things. Outgrown clothing would become quilt squares, dish rags, new garments, dolls, and firestarting material. Corn husks could be dried and turned into dolls, brooms, bed ticking, toilet paper, and fermented for cattle feed. Spent candles were melted down into new candles, used for bandages, and preserving canned foods. These are just a few examples of multi-purposed materials children will learn about throughout the days event.
At this home school day, catered to home school families, students will be able to get hands-on with activities teaching them how to look at materials differently- with a new mindset. What ELSE could I use this for? How did folks in the «olden days» make-do with what limited means they had?..
