Wing Haven announces its Fall Symposium October 18 and 19, 2017: Inspiring the Unexpected. As one of the most gifted horticulturists and garden writers in the 20th century history, Elizabeth Lawrence created an enduring legacy through her writings and her garden. The year 2017 heralds exciting milestones for Elizabeth Lawrence, with half of her manuscripts celebrating major anniversaries. The most notable, «A Southern Garden», published 75 years ago, continues as a timeless and relevant resource of knowledge and inspiration for today’s gardener. Wing Haven’s Executive Director Barrett Ranson explains, “Symposium events will celebrate the legacy of Elizabeth Lawrence, as a horticultural scholar, gardener, and writer.“ In this vein, Wing Haven welcomes nationally acclaimed horticulturists and garden writers Ken Druse and Margot Shaw, who, in their own right, have continued Miss Lawrence’s enlightening tradition of sharing knowledge and history while inspiring current and future generations of nature enthusiasts.

Beginning on Wednesday October 18, limited seating will be available for a very special day at the Elizabeth Lawrence House & Garden featuring keynote speaker Dr. William Welch, plantsman, author and Professor of Horticulture at Texas A&M University. Attendees will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn from those who knew Lawrence best about her personality, her life’s work, and awe-inspiring moments of magic in the garden. That evening, Lawrence’s historic garden and home will be the setting to toast her accomplishments with good friends and delightful cocktails. On Thursday, October 19, the symposium culminates with a morning at Charlotte Country Club, where Ken Druse and Margot Shaw will pique your imagination with their wit and wisdom, rich visual imagery and creative tips for garden and floral design. Guests will hear lively anecdotes from these brilliant speakers as they showcase the unexpected with plant design, conservation and sustainability. This memorable gathering is not to be missed! All proceeds benefit Wing Haven and its outreach programs.
